The Cuts:Weekend box office releases prove mediocre

Giant scorpions and Tina Fey: Another weekend at the movie yields entertaining, if deeply flawed, cinematic mayhem.
“Date Night”
“Date Night” combines the comedic talents of sitcom super stars Steve Carell and Tina Fey in a wild chase through Manhattan. There are explosions, guns, strippers, corrupt cops, extortion and of course a barrage of slap sticky gags.
This is the sort of movie that allows its protagonists to both accidentally run into glass doors at the same time and still tries to keep the over-the-top jokes in the rein of a conceivable plot.
Once a week is date night, and as Mr. Foster (Carell) sees marriages around him crumble and fail, he decides he and his wife need to have an extra-special night. A stolen reservation, a mistaken identity, a few laughs later and they are in a tough spot.
