An Elgin woman sobbed in court Wednesday as prosecutors charged her with murder in a botched hotel room robbery in Schaumburg that left her boyfriend dead and another man critically injured.
Kristian Branch, 28, who just last week was arrested in a Schaumburg prostitution sting, cried through most of the hearing, then fainted and fell to the ground after Cook County Judge Joseph Urso set her bail at $3 million.
From the courtroom gallery, her mother, Theresa De La Rosa, cried out, “Oh, my God, my baby.”
Branch and a Rockford man, Mario Charles, went to a room in the Homestead Studio Suites Hotel early Tuesday intending to rob a woman, Assistant State’s Atty. Maria McCarthy said. At gunpoint, Charles ordered everyone to the floor, told them to remove their clothes and demanded their money, she said.
