A team of Chicago police, city inspectors and Cook County state’s attorney’s investigators raided a South Side motel today that for years has been a neighborhood nuisance for prostitution, drugs and other crimes.

“It’s been a problem ever since we moved to this neighborhood, said Rev. Corey Brooks, pastor of the New Beginnings Church, across the Martin Luther King Drive from the motel.The church began coordinating marches against the motel owner last summer after several violent incidents occurred there.One Sunday morning, said Brooks, a half-naked man ran into the church, apparently in flight from other men who had beaten him.Another time, a motel customer burst into the church school in flight from police and stashed some drugs in the bookshelves as shocked church members watched.
