It’s hard to break into the top tier of Illinois political scandals, but you have to think that Scott Lee Cohen has at least a fighting chance.
Here’s a guy, a pawnbroker from Chicago, who spends $2 million of his own money to get 26 percent of the vote in last week’s Democratic primary for lieutenant governor. But with five other relative unknowns in the race, 26 percent is enough to win.
Only then does it come out that in 2005, his prostitute girlfriend had filed a domestic battery charge against him for holding a knife at her throat. The charge was dismissed when she failed to show up in court. That’s followed by disclosures that Mr. Cohen had used anabolic steroids, had failed to pay child support and had been the target of dozens of lawsuits.
