It’s a battle law enforcement agencies in the Chicago and across the country have been fighting for a while and it now appears they may have a victory in their attempts to stop Craigslist from running thinly veiled ads for prostitution.

Dart has long contended the adult services section on the Craigslist website promoted prostitution. His agency and others routinely conduct stings in which undercover officers response to Craigslist adult ads and meet up with women who then offer sex in exchange for money. In some cases, police have discovered rings where children were forced into prostitution. In another recent case, a man was arrested for allegedly pimping his wife on Craigslist.

Last year, Craigslist replaced its “Erotic Services” section with “Adult Services” and Illinois Attorney General said the site would be monitored to make sure the revamped site steered clear of prostitution.
Last week, attorneys general in 17 states called on Craigslist to drop the adult services offering saying prostitution was still being promoted on the site.
