When that citizen group sought me out, they wanted to go gotcha. But instead of appearing unreasonable, I advised them to put the non-issues aside, do their homework, present the numbers and facts that supported their position, and the process would likely be a marathon and not a sprint.
I think the reason some of you prefer the gotcha game is a combination of impatience and feeling powerless, but the truth is, there are always options that go beyond the school/village/county board.
Be creative!
Remember the story about the Stone Park nuns who were unhappy with the strip club coming in across the street? My e-mail suggestion was to station a few of their novices right outside the establishment entrance so they could preach to the poor misguided performers and the men who patronize them.

It was only a matter of time before Bernadette found out about Howard’s man-whore past. In this week’s episode of The Big Bang Theory, “The Stag Convergence,” that knowledge, revealed via Evil Wil Wheaton, almost derailed the wedding of the year.
As if we needed any more proof that Howard is a changed man, he actually agreed not to have any strippers at his bachelor party, much to the chagrin of most of the party’s attendees. Among the bros invited for steaks and whiskey, but no boobies was none other than Wil Wheaton, Sheldon’s ex-nemesis. Any episode with Wil immediately gets an A++ in my book, and I don’t just say that because of my feelings for Wesley Crusher which, creepily enough, have lingered into adulthood. He is a wonderful element in the show’s universe; how many of us geeks dream about hanging out with a Star Trek actor?

NFL draft day brings excitement to the football fan in everyone, unless you’re a Chicago Bears fan. For those unfortunates, draft day is wondering what busts we’re going to take this time, but there is a solution for that.
Former GM Jerry Angelo was ousted mainly for his failure to draft and develop players. The Bears have been known for more busts than the local gentleman’s club.
If you read that last line closely, (no, not the one about the busts) I mentioned develop players. That’s not the general manager’s fault. That one falls squarely on the shoulders of the coaching staff, led by one Lovie Smith.
While the GM and coach are supposed to work together, it’s the general manager’s job to select the best player for the team. That includes overruling what the coach wants. In Angelo’s case, and to his detriment, he caved in to Lovie’s whims with the draft selections he made.

Someone commented that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s wife, Ann, raised five boys and had the hardest job in the world. While I agree that being a parent is a tough job, you must recognize that Ann Romney raised five boys with the constant help and support of maids, nannies and lots of money. She had the privilege of being able to stay home. Many middle-class families do not have that luxury. Families today need two incomes to survive. I would have more respect for Ann Romney if she acknowledged she had many privileges that most moms do not have.
It is time to tax churches, churchgoers and all other tax-exempt illusion dwellers.
If we can tax sinners with high taxes on liquor and tobacco users and make $5 charges to enter strip clubs, then it would be very fair to charge the same to enter churches and Bible study and tax all other products that the righteous sell. The financial problem in Illinois would be solved.

4. PREPPING FOR PROTESTS: As Tampa gears up to host the Republican National Convention, local officials have been making plans for how to handle activists that come to town. The proposed “Clean Zone” from the mayor’s office has been criticized and suggested changes include redefining the area for demonstrators. Tampa Bay Online: http://bit.ly/I57Ylq
Meanwhile, according to the Tampa Bay Times, strip clubs in the area are readying their sites for the convention’s expected influx of visitors. “You’ve got a bunch of people coming to Tampa Bay. They’re not in meetings 24 hours a day. What do you think they’re going to be doing at night? You can only eat so many steak dinners. You can only look at so many sunsets,” said Paul Allen, publisher of the Night Moves, an adult business trade magazine. http://bit.ly/HYzj5u

BETWEEN strippers, werewolves and All That Jazz, life is proving bloody good for former Hollyoaks and The Bill star Ali Bastian.
She is currently playing gangster’s moll Roxie Hart on stage in the touring version of West End and Broadway smash Chicago.
And she’ll be in cinemas next week in British horror-comedy Strippers vs Werewolves.
Both are virgin territory, her first forays into musicals and horror, and it’s a dramatic change in direction for the 30-year-old that she attributes to the much more genteel surroundings of Strictly Come Dancing.
…
She even found the time to make a movie last year, the aforementioned Strippers vs Werewolves, which also stars Martin Compston and Adele Silva.
It’s about a group of strippers who accidentally kill a werewolf chief and have until the next full moon before his bloodthirsty wolfpack seek revenge.
…
● Strippers vs Werewolves is released in cinemas on April 27.

By 1922, the Tribune reported that the Aschers were near bankruptcy, owing to “mismanagement of corporate funds.” The company went into receivership, but the Portage wasn’t sold until June 1929 to the Fox Chicago Theater Company, along with the Aschers’ 10 other theaters, including the Chateau, Adelphi, Calo, Lane Court, Rosewood, Terminal, Forest Park, Oakland Square, Metropolitan, Frolic, Crown, Commercial, and West Englewood Theaters. All have been either demolished or repurposed as stores or the like (Lane Court, however, became the Park West). To provide further perspective on the Portage Theater’s rarity, it is the last operating movie theater in the Ascher chain.
Two years later the Greater Chicago Shows Circuit — who also ran the New Drake Theater on Montrose and the pre-stripper Admiral Theater on Lawrence — leased the Portage, closing it in July to replace the seats and make other adjustments. At this time the theater dropped the “Park” from its full name and became the Portage Theater. The original name, however, remains emblazoned in terra cotta outside.

… When she was done,” he wrote, “I slept curled in a ball facing her, my forehead against her collarbone, her heavy arm across my shoulder.”
Throughout his college years, Elliott kept writing. When he returned to school, he started gaining recognition for his work.
“In my senior year, I won an undergraduate competition for a short story I had written,” Elliott said. “I thought, ‘Crap, I can get paid for this?’”
After college, Elliott returned to Chicago and worked odd jobs as he tried to get his work published. For several months, he worked as a stripper on the city’s north end. (That job later inspired Elliott’s third novel, What It Means to Love You, a story of three dancers who navigate Chicago’s sex-work underworld.) He also began hanging out with other writers, filmmakers and artists—bright, creative people who, like himself, had tough upbringings. With them, he experimented with cocaine and other drugs.

Iniquez, who is Hispanic and a board member on Morton High School District Board 201, also shared how he met the actor who played the character Ogre in the movie “Revenge of the Nerds” outside a Cubs game — and there was a photo posted on Facebook to prove it.
“I was tanked before the game even started,” Iniquez wrote on his Facebook page.
In an interview Tuesday, Iniquez blamed his 15-year-old son for the racist post, saying his kids have access to his Facebook page. He acknowledged writing about drinking at the Cubs game and said he shouldn’t have. And he dismissed the White Sox comment as baseball humor.
His teenage son, who has his own Facebook page, is “going to get grounded over this. I’m not taking this lightly,” Iniquez said.
Iniquez has listed among his friends a stripper, according to Facebook, and Iniquez blamed his teenage son for that as well.
