When porn star Jenna Jameson called in sick for appearances at his two DuPage County movie theaters, Ted Bulthaup did not take the news with a shrug of the shoulders. He tracked down online footage showing Jameson at a Hollywood party.
Then he called his lawyer.
Bulthaup — the Wonka-esque mind behind the Hollywood Blvd. and Hollywood Palms cinemas — says he doesn’t like getting tangled up in court. Then again, he saw few other options than the lawsuit he filed against Jameson after she backed out of the promotion for her R-rated horror-comedy “Zombie Strippers!”
“When word spread that she was at (celebrity blogger) Perez Hilton’s birthday party instead of our event, it was embarrassing,” he said.
Jameson’s no-show notwithstanding, celebrity appearances are a staple of the ultimate moviegoing experience Bulthaup has been promising since he opened Hollywood Bar & Filmworks in Indianapolis in 1991. Two decades later, his lavishly decorated theaters in Woodridge and Naperville remain a unique draw in the West suburbs, offering full food and bar service, and regular appearances by faces from the big screen.

In the summer of 1981, Mazola and neighborhood resident Oscar DAngelo, the so-called Mayor of Little Italy, collaborated with local merchants and nearby institutions and co-founded the University Village Association. Its a nonprofit group focused on broadly improving local stability by assisting in the economic residential development in the neighborhood. Mazola was its first president.
Almost a decade later, when Fred Roti, the alderman of the 1st Ward, was indicted in the federal governments Operation Gambat investigation for racketeering and extortion in 1990, Mazola ran for the job and took 57 percent of the vote, in a competitive field of five candidates.
Being an Italian from the 1st Ward following Roti, the first day I was in office a guy came to me talking about a nightclub on Lake Street. I say, are you talking about a strip club? It was my first day in office. I said, get out of here, he recalls.

A: Oh man, if she’s anything like Shaylene down at the Quik-Pak, you LEAVE. I swear, she’d be tapping her heater against the glass before I got to TWO. Ooh-wee, she crazy!
Q: Five guys, all of different ages, enter a bar and take a seat at a round table. What is the probability that they are seated in ascending order of age?
A: I don’t know. 20 to 1? Is that even a probability? Are they sitting at my table? Because I tell you one thing, there is a 100 percent chance that the drunkest one is sitting next to me. Is that anything?
Q: What is your strategy at table tennis?
A: Finally, an easy one! I don’t play table tennis … boo-yah!
Q: Would you be OK hearing “no” from seven out of 10 customers?
A: If I was a stripper, yes. Wait.

Chicago Strip Clubs: Getting ‘Dirty’ with writer/director Abe Sylvia

The movie centers on a mismatched duo: Juno Temple as Danielle (the title character), a cynical high school tramp shielding a heart of gold and Jeremy Dozier (in his movie debut) as Clarke, the gay, awkward and shy, overweight object of high school bullying. Outside of school, both Danielle and Clarke have their proverbial crosses to bear, tooa trampy mother (Milla Jovovich) mixed up with a conservative Mormon boyfriend (William H. Macy) for Danielle and a homophobic father (Dwight Yoakam) and mother in denial (Mary Steenburgen) for Clarke. When things reach an emotional breaking point the mismatched teens hit the road in search of Danielle’s father (Tim McGraw). Along the way they bond and, in one memorable sequence, Clarke loses his virginity to a hot male stripper (played with sensual finesse by Nicholas D’Agosto).
Chicago Strip Clubs: Why we should bother trying to save The Real Jerk, even if it seems naive and …

There’s plenty of buzz around the corner of Broadview and Queen St. E. lately. Take, for example, the condo/lofts looming over the intersection, both further south on Broadview, at Eastern, and further west along Queen. There’s also the rise of chichi-ish spots like Prohibition “Gastropub” (where you can waste $14 on probably the worst breakfast in the city) and that new store on the south side of Queen that sells crap imported from Britain, for some reason. Add in all the vintage shops, bakeries, and a new high-end, low-stock grocery store, and it’s easy to understand why the intersection is “desirable.” Demolishing one of the key facets of this desirability—a place which is not only a delicious restaurant, but contributes greatly to the architectural and visual appeal of the corner of Queen and Broadview, kitty-cornered by the New Broadview House Hotel (and strip club, which is not going anywhere), a run-down burger bar (Dangerous Dan’s), and a 24-hour Starbank convenience store—in order to seize on this cachet seems moronically wrong-headed. It’s kind of like admiring a piece of art and then buying it and eating so you don’t have to share it with anyone.

Chicago Strip Clubs: A flying corpse lands in court

China’s government has banned commercial interruptions in dramatic programs lasting at least 45 minutes. An official at the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television declared that eliminating ads from programs would make the shows conform to “public interests and aspirations” and “help TV dramas develop in a scientific and healthy manner.” But the move also follows the Communist Party’s announced intention to raise TV’s entertainment and ideological value to hold the attention of people who’re increasingly turning to the Internet for alternate viewpoints. The new rule also came after most advertising contracts for the new year had already been signed. TV advertising revenue in 2010 amounted to $78 billion, much of which supported the nation’s 3,240 TV stations. “The government could really take our lives if it bans all commercial breaks during the most-watched TV series,” one station executive said.
