Unhappy Ending
Massage parlor owner arrested in prostitution sting
Updated 1:30 PM CST, Sun, Mar 7, 2010
Like most people who run a business, Kristy Chin wants her customers to walk away satisfied.
But little did she know, the man who walked into her massage parlor wasn’t looking for the happy ending police say she was offering.
He was an undercover cop, but this wasn’t his first time inside the Therapy Spa at 334 W. Peterson Ave. Spurred on by complaints from neighbors, the sheriff’s office was in the midst of a sting operation, repeatedly returning to the spa, trying to gain the proprietor’s trust.
And it worked, according to charges filed against 37-year-old Chin. After the cop became a repeat client, authorities say she offered to perform a sex act on him, and was promptly arrested.

Harold Rubin, the eccentric collector once dubbed the “king of Chicago pornography,” or John Dillinger, the notorious 1930s gangster?
Leslie Hindman Auctioneers are hoping a little of both.
This month, part of Rubin’s collection will go on the block at the Chicago auction house. Among the most gripping items are a bulletproof vest that reportedly was worn or stolen by Dillinger and a plaster mold of his death mask. Prohibition documents, room keys, poker chips, all said to have belonged to Al Capone, as well as gruesome photographs of dead criminals and their families, also will be for sale.
Fans of Rubin, who died in 2007, knew him as Weird Harold, a nickname he took with him when he opened Weird Harold’s, an adult bookstore, massage parlor and nude modeling studio at 541 S. Wabash Ave.

Massage Parlor Re-Opens; Hearing Expected
A Park Ridge massage parlor, the location of a recent prostitution bust, is back open for business.
“They’ve re-opened pending their hearing,” confirmed Police Cmdr. Lou Jogmen on Monday, Feb. 15. The city has moved to revoke the license of Time Out Sports Spa, 712 W. Higgins Rd., explained Tim Schwarz, environmental health officer. He hopes to send out a notice of revocation to the business later this week.
The business would then be forced to close within 10 days unless they request a hearing, an action Schwarz expects.
On Feb. 4 at about 2 p.m., police investigators conducted an investigation at Time Out. Undercover officers entered the business and requested a massage. During the massage, Jin Jin, 43, of Flushing, N.Y., allegedly attempted to perform a sex act with the officer. She was taken into custody and charged with prostitution. Jin has a scheduled court appearance at the Cook County Courthouse in Skokie on Feb. 19.

Seems police and court records show the woman alleged that Cohen put a knife to her throat and pushed her head against the wall. Seems Chicago police in their report said they observed “mild abrasions from knife wound” on her neck and “minor scars on her hand from her trying to defend herself against the arrestee swinging the knife at her.”
Did those records decide to “raise questions” on the day after the election? Maybe they shouted out that day: “Look at us! We want to raise questions.”
Those records and others soon to be cited were there all through the campaign. Why didn’t the news media cite them for the voters to evaluate before the election?
Much more.
Seems the “girlfriend” was a convicted prostitute. She pleaded guilty and told of massage parlor activities. Cohen insisted he knew her only as a “massage therapist.”

The DC: And did you buy that? SLC: “I think they felt that the media would have focused on the breakdown of communication in the media, the breakdown of communication in the Democratic party. The idea that an outsider, that a pawnbroker won Illinois’ lieutenant governor nomination …”
The DC: How long have you been a pawnbroker? SLC: “My whole life. I only own one shop, and to be honest with you, I don’t handle the day-to-day operations. I haven’t handled it in many years.”
The DC: Did you know about your girlfriend’s profession?
SLC: “You know what, I met her at a massage parlor, and I knew that that was her profession; I did not know she was a prostitute. And to be honest with you, later when she pleaded guilty to those charges, I think she pled guilty because she didn’t have the money to defend herself in a way that would have exonerated her.”
