CHICAGO — Illinois’ human rights department says it’s found substantial evidence of discrimination at the Chicago office of a German industrial conglomerate.
A former employee who is African American has alleged a pattern of discrimination and racially insensitive comments when he worked at ThyssenKrupp. The firm denies any wrongdoing.
The finding by the Illinois Department of Human Rights paves the way for Montrelle Reese to file a lawsuit against the company. He plans to seek more than $250,000 in damages.
Reese was a sales representative at ThyssenKrupp Elevator in Chicago from November 2007 to January 2010. He claims a “non-black” co-worker performed a skit in blackface at a regional conference in 2009 and that his white co-workers refused to travel to black neighborhoods alone, making disparaging comments about crime, drugs and prostitutes.

Mikrut told the Sun-Times that since he introduced the service a little over two years ago, the vast majority of rush orders have come in the early morning or at night, and almost all of the customers were women.

A 22-year-old Milwaukee woman is charged with prostitution following a sting by undercover officers at a Schaumburg hotel Friday.
Cook County prosecutors said Ashley Evans offered to perform a sexual act for $75 to an undercover Schaumburg police officer. She was arrested at the hotel in the 2000 block of N. Roselle Road just before 6:30 p.m. Friday, authorities said.
Court papers indicate police set up the sting by contacting Evans through an advertisement on a website. Evans was convicted of prostitution in 2007, authorities said.
She is being held at the Cook County jail in lieu of a $2,000 bond. Her next court date is Feb. 28.

Working together offered a few surprises for the two actors.
“During our first meeting,” McAdams says, “he came bounding into the door with his three dogs who just about knocked me down. I was trying on dresses and he began to try the dresses on to break the ice.”
(“I try to be helpful,” Tatum interrupts.)
“He kept saying, ‘Rachel, I think I look better in this than you do,’” McAdams says. “Yes, he’s very helpful.”
Tatum, 31, who hails from Alabama, is pretty busy to be this helpful. He’s also at the multiplex in “Haywire” and next month stars in the big-screen version of “21 Jump Street.” Later in the year come “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” and “Magic Mike,” where he plays an upstart male stripper for director Steven Soderbergh.

According to the court documents, Martin acted as a principal of One World, even though he was prohibited from holding such a position with a National Futures Association member, and Walsh served as the president and primary manager of the trading firm. They marketed over the counter foreign currency (“forex”) trading services in which they were to serve as the customers’ counterparty. In reality, however, One World’s trading platform operated as a front to placate customers whose margin funds were being systematically misappropriated by them. They concealed the misappropriation from customers, as well as government and industry regulators, by making false representations. For example, they solicited new customers without telling them that the value of their investments with One World would be immediately diminished upon deposit due to a shortfall in One World’s customer trading account.
The defendants used customer funds they misappropriated to finance extravagant lifestyles. Credit card and bank records show that Martin spent more than $1 million at a strip club and restaurants, nearly $ …

A. Phillip Randolph (1889-1979)
A member of the Socialist Party of America, by the mid-1910s, A. Phillip Randolph was a popular soapbox speaker in Harlem, arguing against the injustices of the capitalist system. A few years later, he served as editor of the influential black leftist magazine The Messenger.
Randolph wrote in an editorial, “Most Negro families are on the brink of poverty, they are not striving to live but they are struggling to keep from dying…private ownership of the tools of production…is the mother of poverty, ignorance, crime, prostitution, and race prejudice.”
