It’s hard to break into the top tier of Illinois political scandals, but you have to think that Scott Lee Cohen has at least a fighting chance.
Here’s a guy, a pawnbroker from Chicago, who spends $2 million of his own money to get 26 percent of the vote in last week’s Democratic primary for lieutenant governor. But with five other relative unknowns in the race, 26 percent is enough to win.
Only then does it come out that in 2005, his prostitute girlfriend had filed a domestic battery charge against him for holding a knife at her throat. The charge was dismissed when she failed to show up in court. That’s followed by disclosures that Mr. Cohen had used anabolic steroids, had failed to pay child support and had been the target of dozens of lawsuits.

Chicago Adult Entertainment: Feeling sorry for Cohen and other pols
February 9th, 2010 — Chicago adult entertainment
So he decided to put himself and his family through an expensive and risky campaign.
And if you didn’t feel bad for Cohen watching his Sunday night news conference, surely you felt bad for his sons who sat by him at the table sobbing helplessly at their father’s pain and humiliation. I’m guessing they love him madly despite his failings, and they are far more hurt and confused than he is by his fall, in less than a week, from the top of the hill to the bottom of the ditch.
While I’m doling out sympathies as this sorry tale comes to a conclusion, let me include a nod to Cohen’s former live-in girlfriend. Yes, she was once arrested for prostitution and has clearly made some unwise choices in her life, including her romantic involvement with Cohen some five years ago.

In 2005 Cohen was accepted for domestic battery. He was accused of pushing his ex-girlfriend Amanda Eneman-a prostitute into the wall and held a knife to her throat. He denied the accusations and the charges were dropped because the victim didn’t show up in court. He was also accused of abusing his ex-wife and he admitted to using antibiotic steroids in the past.
“For the good of th epeople of the state of Illinois and the Democratic Party, I will resign.” Cohen said.

Chicago Adult Entertainment: Even In Chicago, It Was A Strange Way To Exit A Political Race
February 9th, 2010 — Chicago adult entertainment
Even for Chicago, known for weird political moments, Cohen’s departure was odd. Cohen, who departed the race after it became public that he had once held a knife a prostitute ex-girlfriend’s throat and had a history of using steroids, held a press conference. During Super Bowl halftime. In a bar. At a table. With his emotional son crying into his father’s chest.
…
In a steady torrent following the Tuesday primary, leading Democrats called for Cohen to step aside as new details were revealed about his relationships with his now-ex-wife while using anabolic steroids and his ex-girlfriend, convicted as a prostitute, whom he met at a massage therapy spa. Other revelations showed that as he pumped millions into his campaign, his ex-wife filed a mid-December lawsuit seeking $54,000 in back-due child support.

Cohen Won’t Rule Out Independent Run
Neither Madigan nor Quinn offer to reimburse the ex-Lt. Gov. nominee

Cohen to run as an independent? He’s not ruling it out.
The pawnbroker-cum-politician who withdrew from the general election after being excoriated for abusing steroids, allegedly threatened his family and held a knife to the throat of a prostitute alluded to the possibility he would run independently in an interview Monday.
“I ran for office to help the people,” Cohen said. “The problem was the media was hammering me so bad…This is more outrageous because I gave the people the opportunity to know. It was out there, they all knew!”
Asked whether he wouldn’t run for office, Cohen said “I never said that. I realized from this whole thing that every single thing you say is on the record.”

February 8th, 2010 — Chicago massage parlors
The Gold Coast neighborhood has been widely talked about on the web these past few days as was the case while I tried to look for where in the web was the Gold Coast being talked about. I was able to find a page that was similar to ours called Chitown Daily News that attempted at being hiperlocal it had a section for neighborhood news, businesses, and a neighborhood forum to which no one had posted anything to.
But when it came to the Gold Coast neighborhood being in the news topix.com had an article linking Democratic candidate for Lt. Governor Scott Cohen to the Gold Coast. Apparently he had been living with his 29 yr. old girlfriend in their Gold Coast home, days before she pleaded guilty to charges on prostitution at a Glenview massage parlor where she had worked.

Scott Cohen: Prostitute-Dating, Steroid-Shooting, Pawn-Brokering Nominee Bows Out
Mon., Feb. 8 2010 @ 10:03AM
In case you were one of the millions of people watching the Super Bowl last night and didn’t hear the news, Illinois’ Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor, Scott Lee Cohen has quit the race.
Cohen made the announcement at a Chicago bar last night during the Super Bowl’s half-time performance — a fitting farewell for a politician whose sleaze factor seems extraordinary even for Illinois politics.
Since winning the Democratic primary last Tuesday to run as his party’s nominee for lieutenant governor, Cohen has been hounded by a 2005 arrest report that he held a knife to a prostitute’s throat. (The prostitute — whom he met at a massage parlor — also happened to be his live-in girlfriend at the time.)

Chicago Adult Entertainment: Cohen calls it quits
February 8th, 2010 — Chicago adult entertainment
He said he was stepping down as the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor after his win in last Tuesday’s primary because he did not want to jeopardize the Democratic Party ticket.
“This is the hardest thing that I ever had to do in my life,” he said before choking up with sobs.
The pawn broker and owner of a cleaning supplies company unexpectedly won the nomination Tuesday after funneling much of his own money into his campaign. Since then, it has become widely known that he was accused of abusing his ex-wife and holding a knife to the throat of an ex-girlfriend — allegations Cohen has denied.
The former girlfriend herself had been charged with prostitution. She issued a statement Saturday through her attorney saying Cohen is unfit to hold public office.
