Chicago Adult Entertainment: A Comic Relief For Englewood

Comic Relief For Englewood
Comic relief for Englewood residents varies depending on who you talk to in the community. For some, that means laughing at life’s misfortunes while still pushing forward. Some feel accomplishing greatness is never spoken about and living in the Englewood Community you’re often time pigeonholed into becoming a product of your environment.
Englewood is one of Chicago’s most talked about communities because of its constant portrayal of violence in the media. Rising stars, influential figures and extraordinary and funny people come from the community that is plagued by drugs, robbery, prostitution and gun shots. A rising star, stand-up comedian Kevin White, who is from Englewood (56th Seeley) says his community just “needs a hug”.
Since high school, White says he has always been his own leader and never cared about being a part of the “IN” crowd which was how he avoided gang initiation. While talking to White you can’t escape his unique sense of humor. “I hid behind my …

THE grandmother of a one-year-old Chicago boy was charged with endangering the life of a child after police determined that the youngster ingested PCP and cocaine.
The Chicago Tribune said Yolanda Beck, 37, of the 3600 block of West Fifth Avenue in the East Garfield Park neighbourhood, was arrested earlier in the week.
She has several previous drug arrests, but her lone conviction was for prostitution in 2008, according to court records.
Harrison District Police said the child was brought to the Mount Sinai Hospital on Sunday (local time) after becoming lethargic at his home on the city’s West Side.
The boy had been seen chewing on a piece of tinfoil that police believe was tainted with the two substances.

Chicago Strip Clubs: I brought my mom to Boystown and…

Boystown is very obviously a gay ghetto (ghetto being used to describe a self-segregated community here, not to describe quality of living.) In addition to the normal facets of life that you find everywhere, Boystown also has gay bars, strip clubs, sex shops. Did the presence of these things affect you in any way?
If you mean, did they make me uncomfortable, the answer is no, not at all. Actually, I didn’t notice the strip clubs (hmm), and the sex shop window displays were interesting, not vulgar. We have made our way to a number of the bars, oh yes we have:), and at each and every one I have been greeted with warmth and friendship and made to feel included.  Oh so many life lessons are there to be learned in the Boystown community about affection and acceptance…

Chicago Adult Entertainment: The Rhubarb Patch: Zorn and Byrne on how to stop the violence

It’s a tangle of cause and effect when you start trying to tease out of the statistics the root causes of crime. I’ll let you take the first crack at that while suggesting that, instead of asking where we’ve gone wrong, we should look at the numbers since 1993 and ask what we’re doing right.
From Dennis,
To Eric:
Nice to know that things are getting better, but I don’t think the mourners at slain police Officer Michael Bailey’s funeral on Friday would be convinced by a bar chart. The FBI index of five major crimes that you cite leaves out 191 nonindex crimes, including kidnappings, weapons violations, prostitution and drug offenses, and the poor and minority communities are getting hit the worst, as the Chicago Reporter described in 2008.

Chicago Strip Clubs: WALTERS v. BREATHLESS 2000 AND CHRISTOFIS KONTOS

Defendants Breathless 2000 (Breathless) and Christofis Kontos appeal from an order of the Law Division confirming an arbitration award in favor of plaintiff William Walters and denying their motion for leave to file a demand for trial de novo out of time. Additionally, defendant Kontos argues that the judgment against him must be set aside because plaintiff’s amended complaint adding him as a named defendant was barred by the statute of limitations and the arbitrator made no finding of his liability. We affirm in part and reverse and remand in part.
On September 4, 2007, plaintiff filed a complaint against Breathless, a gentlemen’s club in Rahway, ABC Corp. 1-10, and John Does 1-10, seeking recovery for injuries suffered from a slip and fall in the men’s restroom of the facility on December 18, 2005. Chicago Adult Entertainment: Des Plaines man accused of soliciting child for sex

A Des Plaines man is accused of soliciting sex from an undercover Carol Stream police officer who posed online as a 14-year-old girl.
Naman H. Patel, 23, was ordered held Friday on $150,000 bail on charges alleging indecent solicitation of a child and attempted aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
Detectives arrested him Thursday after they said he traveled to Carol Stream for what he believed would be a sexual encounter with the teen, who actually was an undercover officer posing as a minor as part of the department’s regular online policing.
In bond court, Patel told DuPage Associate Judge Liam Brennan he works in a hospital. He did not name the facility. Prosecutors said Patel does not have a criminal past. If convicted, he faces a possible sentence of up to three years in prison and would have to register as a sex offender upon his release.
